A short guide to 'defragging' ? Business Management Daily: Free ...

?Defragging? is a process that takes data that has been fragmented into different storage units on your computer and reorganizes them in a more sensible way so your computer will run faster. With today?s computers, though, you don?t need to do this very often and most of the new operating systems do it for you on a regular basis, says Lifehacker Editor-in-Chief Whitson Gordon.

If you?re still using Windows XP, you?ll need to defrag your computer yourself?usually about once a week following these steps.

  • Open the ?Start? menu.
  • Click ?Run.?
  • Type ?Dfrg.msc? and hit the ?Enter? key.

This will take you to the Disk Defragmenter where you can defragment each of your computer?s drives.
